In Sheboygan, the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and the Qeej Society are working to ensure that the next generation of Hmong-Americans continue playing the qeej. At age 10, he started to learn to play the qeej, a traditional Hmong reed instrument made of six bamboo pipes. Saturday at the Stoughton Opera House and will feature five traditional musicians and their apprentices, all recent participants in the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program.
