Such example is the town of Pig Sty Alley, a huge apartment complex that plays home to people of different professions and owned and managed by a lewd landlord and his forceful wife. Without any laws enforced and no police to defy the ongoing gang wars, residents are only allowed to live in peace within squatter areas that do not strike appealing to gangs. Cornered and outnumbered, the gang loses with everyone shot to death. After settling a dispute at the police station, one gang is about to leave the premises when the Axe gang, the most notorious gang in Shanghai, marches in full force with each member holding an axe to represent their organization.
Set during the 1930s in Shanghai, the plot begins with the gripping turmoil of different gangs in quest for power.
